This article is in response to Star Magazine's recent article titled "Reese & Gerard's secret hookups!". The Star's article claims that, according to an anonymous source, Reese have been secretly dating Gerard Butler since her break up with Jake Gyllenhaal. 

According to Gerard Butler's representative, the allegations made by the Star Magazine are untrue and these 'secret hookups' never existed.  

The Star needs to introduce more stringent fact-checking procedures prior to releasing articles that have the potential to damage the reputation of celebrities such as Gerard Butler and Reese Witherspoon. 

However, it is unlikely that The Star will take full  responsibility for the accuracy of their journalism. This is because gossip deriving from bad sources generate significant revenue for them.

It is unclear if the Star Magazine will publish a formal retraction on the false allegations in concern. Failure to do so may result in a dip in sales. This is because some readers value responsible and accurate journalism.
