It makes sense for Gerard Butler to consider launching his own line of Men's Grooming products. Alternatively, it  might make sense for a major fragrance brand such as D&G, Gucci, or Givenchy to persuade Gerard Butler to endorse a product that best represents his identity and sense of being. David Beckham for example, has his own line of male and female fragrances. Justin Timberlake for example endorsed the Givenchy brand by selecting scents that he liked. Other male celebrities that have their own line of branded male grooming products include Ewan Mcgregor, Enrique Iglesias & James Franco.

Although the economy is currently in recession,  market research recently conducted by Packaged Facts (Source: Men's Grooming Products: A Global Analysis : Oct 2009 ) indicated that Men's grooming products is one of the few product markets equipped to maintain positive growth during the recession.

The market research revealed there were 4 key drivers enabling growth in the market
(1) Continued growth in middle class sectors in fast growing nations.
(2) Growth in on line trends (Increased Global reach, larger market, more sales)
(3) A growing trend for men to invest more in grooming products as a result of sophisticated marketing campaigns aimed to appeal to men's sense of national identity & ethnicity.
(4) Increasing demand for organic or naturally formulated toiletries due to public concerns about the environment and health matters surrounding the use of man made chemicals.

The projected global retail value of male grooming products for 2009 will exceed $61billion (source: Packaged Facts ). Male grooming products will account for approximately a third of this total. The projected value for male grooming products in five years time is valued at an estimated  $85 billion, compared to $28 billion for male-specific products.

Since 2000, Men have become increasingly more adventurous in their personal grooming regimens, trying a broad range of premium male skin, hair, deodorant and aftershave products.

There is a strong case for Gerard Butler to consider launching his own line of male grooming products.

Now, is perhaps a good time for Gerard Butler to monetize on his fame by launching his own line of products. After all, he has released a large number of films this year, generated an immense amount of public awareness about his films and acting career through the media, achieved 'GQ's Man of the Year Award 2009', 'Variety International Star Award 2009' and became a first time producer for a major international movie for Law Abiding Citizen.

Okay, yes he is a market, but will he have time to be there for this project. He has many projects going on now, new movies and more media, so he needs to have a good team that represents this mens personal grooming deal. If he has that, then he has the makings of being successful at it.
Whats his personal message? Is he hoping that men who use his products that he recommends, will have a 100% chance at looking better, attracting more women or that special someone? Men listen to him, and will want to be like him, yes and smell like him. The sad thing is, Gerry is a good actor, and thats hard to bottle and sell to someone.
Okay so he has his team, his personal message, and now what products can he demonstrate that are sellable? And repeat purchases?
Cologne, works great and If its something rare, kind of his feel on it and Scottish, why not bring in his background a bit, also good for sales if sold in Scotland first. Great market tie in.
Cologne, skin cream, ooh a nice mens shaving kit for his rugged look, that men who like how he does his shaved, stubble, beard look can emulate with a little writeup by Gerard.
"Hey guys, planning a hot weekend with your favorite lassie, don't forget my Gerry Shaving Kit", something like that. Selling oneself on the movies is one thing, but selling a physical product, he needs a written personal message in each kit, good pictures of his face, neck and good clothes in a full picture, in fact a diagram of him using the products like they have for hair dye?, this would be good also.
What else? Coupons off for one of his movies, which can be for a certain time period, but definitely worth having inside the carton.
If he wants customers to keep buying his products, a coupon will bring in new fans and ticket buyers for his movies.
Also the other market here is the women who have bf's or husbands or dads or brothers and just want them all to smell like Gerry. Hey who knows, the Glasgow Prince/GB might keep marriages together if more men smelled like him?
Okay back to our product development.
Cologne, skin cream, shaving kit, and how about a candle? Candle that has his cologne scent, and something aromatherapy, that relaxes him, or makes him feel good.
How about a candle the has the scent of one of his mum's cakes that he likes, or a deep fried mars bar, both would market well to women, his 2nd sales market.
Brand name, Gerard Butler, Our Own Glasgow Prince, or for his cologne!
